I hate cars.
April 9th, 2006No, really. There is nothing I like about cars.
When I see people standing in front of magazine racks looking at Car and Driver, I have no idea what they’re thinking.
Cars are so dumb.
And have I mentioned I don’t like cars?
Cars are mostly good for killing people, which they do exceedingly well, especially pedestrians.
Cars suck.
Having a human being, with reflexes that evolved for a human being–which is a thing that can run maybe a few miles per hour–behind the wheel of a hurtling missile, is dumb.
Really, really dumb. It’s kind of a death wish, in fact. In fact, it’s not a death wish, it’s death by design.
Which is why I really can’t understand why people get all excited about the design of cars.
Get back to me when cars are safe. That is to say, when cars are automatic, which, by any rational analysis of reality, they must be.
Until then, I look at a car and I see a death trap, not pleasant design.
Amen, brother! you hit the nail right on the head.It makes me sick to think that pepole are judged by the cars thay drive, and not by the person thay are,it has gotten that bad.they drive their cars knowing full well the gas prices and they still complain, but do they stop driving? NO!There are even some pepole how will drag you out of your car and KILL you for it.So go ahead and call me a loser and say i’m not a man,I would rather be a loser then a dead man.Thank you.
- Mike M @ 18 May 2006Hi Chris, Thanks for your comments. There’s no need to get upset and insult me. I’m describing a point of view, that’s all. “Yes they do kill but thats because men like you can’t contral them and there for dispise them.”
Hmm, I’ve driven for 16 years now and had precisely one accident, which consisted of rear ending a car in front of me at about 2 mph. I didn’t scratch the paint.
As for computers going haywire, I agree that that’s a very real risk. The issue as I see it, however, is that people go haywire all the time. They get drunk, they talk on their cell phones, they don’t get their brakes checked, etc, etc, etc. You don’t have to take my word for it:
Danger: Distracted Drivers, 80 Percent Of Car Crashes Involve Drowsy Or Multitasking Drivers, Study Finds - CBS News
As for the emergency transportation issue, I look at it this way: how many accidents are caused by ambulances? How sad is that? How much safer would emergency transportation be if most or all of the cars on the road were equipped with emergency navigation and notification systems if an ambulance or firetruck or whatever had to get by? I think they would be a lot safer.
And actually, I don’t have a problem with cars per se, what I have a problem with is driving. Humans are simply incapable of safely handling a several ton metal rocket.
As a matter of fact, I think cars are cool, especially this one. I hope you work on something like that in future, and I wish you the best of luck. It will be a great field with a lot of opportunities. I feel perfectly justified complaining. Driving kills way too many people.
By the way, I’ve complained a lot more about this, right here: i hate cars. Something tells me you won’t like that blog, but please respect my right to express my opinion, even if you think it’s just complaining. All I’m asking is that you consider my point of view, that’s it.
- pat @ 25 May 2007I love Cars!
Have done since I was a kid and now have a collector muscle car I love to show off.

The odds of cars being removed from the road are laughable. Keep Trying!
Enjoy
- Gary @ 26 September 2007Admittedly, I was ranting, but even so, you missed my point. I’m not saying cars should be removed from the road. What would be the point of having roads? For mules?
I’m saying that we should think of robotic cars as an important goal for the future. A better title would have been “I hate driving.”
- pat @ 26 September 2007Does the average pedestrian realize just how dangerous it is to walk on the side of the road? Car after car goes hurtling past you every moment you are outside on the sidewalk. I hate cars so much that I often fall into the mindset where I publicly begin ranting at the traffic. Cars are death on wheels. I hate the noise the cars make. Thousands and thousands of little explosions burning the lifeblood of our planet. (I’m referring to the engine.) I sometimes take the bus, but mostly, I just walk. And I can walk very far. It’s no wonder that obesity is the second leading cause of death. Everyone just drives and it makes me sick. Sometimes when I’m waiting for the bus I like to call out the number of passengers in a car as it goes flying past. Almost always, just one driver. My life is threatened every time I leave the house. There is a beautiful nature path near my town that connects the town to the university. And there is a mini-highway that runs parallel to the trail. I call the road the ‘wound.’ The incredible natural surroundings are ruined by the sound of traffic and the wildlife doesn’t have a chance to make it across the ‘wound.’ Some motorists are the cockiest people I’ve every seen. Gunnming it around a turn to make it past the old person trying to cross the street. It’s disgusting. I hat cars so much. I wish I was living in the 1100’s. Nobody cound get run down by a horse and cart.
